Vision Statement

The vision of Christ Memorial Church is to see God display His power by saving sinners through the proclamation of the gospel by all of its members to His eternal glory. (1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

Logistically stated, our vision is:

  • To plant and grow a flagship church-planting community church in the Burlington, Vermont area, which aggressively  ministers the gospel to that community and to its colleges.
  • To plant church-planting community churches in strategic* locations, particularly, but not exclusively, in northern New England towns.
  • To establish a flagship church-planting seminary that provides church planters for New England, the United States and the world and which spearheads the establishment of other church-planting seminaries.

Distinctively stated, our vision is:

  • To proclaim the gospel of Christ in all contexts; to all people, believers and unbelievers; and from all of scripture, since the entire Bible speaks of Christ who alone truly converts and renews the soul, thereby building the church (John 5:46, Romans 1:14-17).
  • To shepherd the flock of God so that each individual member contributes to the edification of the body until we all grow up fully into Christ (Ephesians 4:7-16).
  • To facilitate biblical forbearance toward one another in all areas neither addressed nor mandated by Scripture, (e.g., family planning, schooling choices, holiday practices, etc.), so that the gospel and its proclamation remain primary (Romans 14:1-23).
  • To love one another in a way that points to Christ's love for the church and that validates to the world our conversion (John 13:34-35, I John 3:10-23).
  • To teach the scriptures so that the mind and the heart are instructed and moved to deeper love, adoration and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 6:4-6, I Peter 1:3-12).

*Strategic locations include areas of influence like college towns, places of economic and social vitality, and areas with a solid population base.

And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.

For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.

And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

    I Corinthians 2:1-5
